Iran’s ‘The Recess’ competing at Chile Lebu festival

Iranian ‘The Recess’ is competing at the Lebu Int’l Film Festival in Chile.

Iranian flick ‘The Recess’ has been competing at the international short fiction film competition of the Lebu International Film Festival (CINELEBU) in Chile.

The short film, written, produced and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, tells the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are on the cast list.

Kordi won the award for the best performance for her role in ‘The Recess’ at the 33rd Living Skies Student Film Festival in Canada.

Set to compete at the Oxford Film Festival and the Garden State Film Festival, both in the US, the short flick has so far taken part in a number of global events, including the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria.

More than 200 films are competing in the 2021 edition of the CINELEBU, which is the most important Chilean short film event.

Due to the pandemic, the festival is organized online this year.

The CINELEBU director Claudia Pino said, “We believe that holding the festival online is a tremendous opportunity since it will allow us to reach audiences from all over the world, while previously, many of them could not travel and participate in the different activities of the event in person”.

Opened on March 13 in the Chilean city, the event will run until March 21.
